Samet by Gervasoni design Federica Biasi

Gervasoni holds deep roots in the landscape of Italian craftsmanship. Originating in the Udine province in 1882 as a small artisan shop specializing in wickerwork, the “Premiata Società Friulana per l’Industria del Vimini” was taken over by Giovanni Gervasoni in 1925 and has since journeyed through the Italian design history of the 20th century. Today, it stands as an established entity in both indoor and outdoor furniture, managed by the third generation of the family, featuring Giovanni and Michele Gervasoni. In the avant-garde and innovative ‘90s, Gervasoni transcended new frontiers thanks to the eclectic and non-conventional creativity of Paola Navone, who became the creative mind behind some of Gervasoni’s most iconic collections and served as the artistic director until 2020.

From 2021, Gervasoni embarked on a new evolutionary course, involving designers from diverse backgrounds to create collections that stretch widely across the indoor and outdoor furniture world. This new direction taken by Gervasoni continues to uphold Italian design excellence while enriching it with fresh impulses and engaging new creative voices. This approach allows the company to work with internationally recognized designers and discover emerging talents.

It is an example the recent collaboration with Federica Biasi. A designer known for her engagement with the productive know-how of the companies for which she works, and for her ability to perfectly combine form and function, Biasi has interpreted the DNA of Gervasoni with extreme precision to create the Samet sofa.

The Samet collection fits perfectly with the philosophy of Gervasoni, embodying a perfect synthesis between tradition and innovation that has always been one of the company’s strong points. In fact, it represents a clear example of how Gervasoni, in its long history, has been capable of combining a deep passion for craftsmanship – a key, distinctive element of its identity – with an accent on advanced industrial production techniques.

This mixture translates into products that respect and enhance an age-old artisanal tradition, while at the same time taking advantage of the potentialities offered by the latest technologies, safeguarding a position of leadership in a market characterized by continuous movement and transformation.

Samet offers infinite possibilities for personalization, where a simple module can generate countless layouts. The sofa is welcoming, versatile, and fully embodies the painstaking focus of Federica Biasi on details. The Thai inspiration is reflected in the two available variants, a classic high model and a lower floor model, creating unconventional compositions based on the free combination of forms and volumes.

Made with modular components and padded in expanded polyurethane, Samet is practical, functional and ready for customizing thanks to its removable coverings. Each of these details confirms Gervasoni’s commitment to high-quality craftsmanship, without overlooking the need for innovation.

The new direction taken by Gervasoni continues to bring out the excellence of Italian design, enriching it with new stimuli and granting visibility to emerging creative talents. The history of Gervasoni teaches us that innovation and tradition are not two opposing concepts, but can coexist and contribute to the creation of something unique and extraordinary on the design scene.
