Mediterranean culture, with its welcoming, convivial and authentic character, is the inspiration for the outdoor tableaux of Poltrona Frau. This atmosphere full of traditions and values envelopes many of the proposals in the outdoor collection, relying on the design, craftsmanship and skills typical of the brand, and making it possible to get beyond the usual indoor-outdoor dichotomy in favor of an outlook of stylistic continuity. It is therefore a concept of “Boundless Living” that accompanies the creations for the living area, dining zone and relaxation areas, in gardens or by the pool, on verandas, patios, rooftops, terraces, all the way to the decks of yachts and cruise ships. All with a coherent, extremely versatile language.
The research on materials and remarkable expertise in manufacturing behind the products of Poltrona Frau are also factors in the outdoor solutions, where even a detail like the woven cording is the result of fascinating aesthetic and design solutions, offering new interpretations of the tradition to create objects made to last into the future.

The theme of the weave becomes a leitmotif in the latest offerings of the Outdoor Collection. Discreet in terms of image, functional in their use, they include the Secret Garden collection: the designer Roberto Lazzeroni interprets this pattern on the backs of the various seating elements, with flat ribbons in two-tone cotton arranged diagonally, woven by hand and skillfully inserted in the teak frame of the structures. The pattern accentuates the lightness of the products, genteel in their proportions and their poised allure.
Along with cots, chairs with or without armrests and a two-seat canapé, the Secret Garden includes dining and side tables, giving rise to multiple solutions for the lounge or the dining area. While the finely shaped frames in solid wood make reference to Scandinavian design, the ceramic tops in tones of green/blue, and the tops in enameled stoneware finished by hand pay tribute to the Mediterranean tradition, like the palette of coverings for the upholstery, ranging from terracotta to nautical blue and shades of green, emphasized in the soft textures and materials.

The weave returns as a protagonist in the Sparkler lanterns designed by Kensaku Oshiro, a poetic reinterpretation of outdoor lighting. Light in weight, easy to transport and strong, they establish a relationship with both natural and artificial light thanks to the weave of polypropylene cording (with a circular section of 0.5 mm) made by hand: brightened by the sun they create chiaroscuro effects, while in the evening their glow becomes warm and intimate.

There are three available versions: large and medium lanterns placed on the floor or the ground, and a small table lantern, all with frames in aluminium and an LED light source. Here too we find a bold mixture of styles: in its form Sparkler references typical Japanese lanterns, but it also reminds us of the traditional urns found in the gardens of Italian villas.
Along the lines of these patterns based on the creativity of Kensaku Oshiro, there is also the Leplì collection of outdoor ottomans, an open-air interpretation of the successful indoor line, conserving its organic forms. In outdoor settings Leplì relies on a slender weave of cording, emphasizing its sinuous silhouette. As in the Sparkler lamps, the designer uses the motif of weaving in polypropylene cord to add lightness and transparency to the product, but also dynamism: moving upward, the pattern becomes denser, to the point of becoming compact on the seat itself. With the outdoor furnishings of Poltrona Frau, the experience of living in the open air is enhanced by style and comfort, always in the spirit of Made in Italy.
