Design Miami/ 365 days a year. The fair Made in Florida on collectible design, traditionally coordinated with the event Art Basel (in Miami Beach and Basel, Switzerland) launches its own e-commerce channel.
Design Miami/ Shop will be a true online marketplace, for direct contact with a wide range of international galleries (52 at present) and a vast catalogue of over 800 pieces, an overview of design in the 20th and 21st centuries.
The physical experience is thus transposed online, for a virtual stroll through the offerings of Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Friedman Benda, Galerie Kreo, or Les Ateliers Courbet and Nilufar Gallery, among others. It offers access to drawings with a value of 100 dollars, or extraordinary historic works like the 6×6 Demountable House by Jean Prouvé (listed at $1,500,000). In the Shop area every product is painstakingly presented in terms of specifications and price, with the possibility of searching by category, gallery or style.
This is an opportunity that does not set out to replace the fair, but to sustain it and complete it. “While we are now looking ahead to the Miami fair in December, we wanted to find a way to support our galleries and partners in the interim – says the CEO of Design Miami/, Jennifer Roberts. – We believe that our new online platform will be a valuable addition to the Design Miami/ portfolio, and become a destination where visitors can browse and purchase the best in collectible design from the foremost experts in the field as they would at our fairs.”
The initiative includes the creation of a collection of over 100 drawings and illustrations in limited editions, and one-offs made by emerging and acclaimed designers and architects from all over the world; the selection has been curated in collaboration with Anava Projects, and is on sale only at the Design Miami/ Shop. Proceeds will be entirely donated to support GlobalGiving’s Coronavirus Relief Fund.
