In Milan, Design that moves the world

The  streets of the city are suffused with an effervescent atmosphere charged with electricity that connects visitors with the surrounding environment, making them feel an integral part of a lively microcosm that, for one week a year, brings together the best in design with the most dynamic international public.

This is Milan, the city that FederlegnoArredo dubbed, in the captivating slogan that accompanies the 56th edition of the Salone del Mobile, the “Capital of Design”. For seven days, during Design Week, its districts become centres of creativity, fulcrums of events, installations, exhibitions and presentations, as well as the venue for the most convivial cocktail parties, street parades, openings hosted in brand showrooms, museums and institutions… All that’s required is to carefully plan the diary!

This year, FuoriSalone is divided among renowned districts like Tortona, Brera, Ventura-Lambrate, the district of the 5VIE (five streets) and new entries, like the Isola Design District; the Triennale in Via Durini at Superstudio in the Santambrogio area at the Università degli Studi through to Porta Venezia.

And, while the combination of design-art-culture dominates the city, interior design is the real star of Milan’s Salone del Mobile.Milano. In the Rho Fiera exhibition area, there’s a whirl of proposals for furniture in all its stylistic and production variety: design, luxury, lighting and office (in the proposals of the Biennials at Euroluce and Workplace 3.0).

There’s great emphasis on the outdoors, now considered as an extension of the home; a huge variety of accessories including cupboards, dressing tables and coffee tables that perfectly combine function and decoration, alongside the large articles for the living room, increasingly presented as islands of total comfort; in the night zone, centre stage is taken by the wardrobes, discreet architectural elements with a strong, clean look.
