Marco De Vincenzo: from fashion to design

The Italian designer, who made his debut this year with his first home collection designed for Etro, feels at ease in more than one category and moves with ease from clothes to furniture

In his third season for Etro, Marco De Vincenzo confirms his eclectic nature: playing with colours, prints and details with an ethnic flavour, he has created collections with a strong impact, both in the field of fashion and design. Born in Messina in 1978, De Vincenzo moved to Rome at the age of 18 and, after graduating in Fashion and Costume at the European Institute of Design, joined the Fendi Style Office. At the same time, he launched his own clothing line that debuted in Paris in January 2009, during Haute-Couture week. A 2014 recipient of the One ten of tomorrow award given by the American fashion newspaper WWD, his career was always on the rise so much so that in June 2022 he took over as artistic director of the company founded in 1968 by Gerolamo Etro.

His ability to be transversal and to cast his aesthetic universe on both clothes and furniture became evident this year with the launch of his first Home Interiors collection designed for Etro. “Creativity never lives in isolated environments,” says the fashion designer. “If you love art, textiles, fashion, lifestyle, it is natural to feel comfortable in more than one category. The home then, is an extension of oneself, so it is even easier for it to tell the aesthetic universe of the person who designed it”.

In his reinterpretation of the brand’s tradition and heritage, De Vincenzo infuses his aesthetic between poetry and modernity in a multidimensional journey in which the furnishings, complements and objects of the Etro Home Interiors world coexist, creating new ways of experiencing the home. United by the art of savoir-faire, Etro and ONIRO Group, the brand’s licensee since 2017, continue their partnership by designing a new line of furnishings in which pattern and fabric, the founding elements of the maison, are declined in an explosion of prints and vibrant shades.

“I started from the Seventies,” continues De Vincenzo, “a fundamental moment in the history of Made in Italy and in that of the brand, visible in the clean shapes of the seats and in some patterns with a kinetic flavour. Three main colour themes alternate in the collection through geometric patterns in shades of green, blue and earth colours, interspersed with floral patterns. A perfect expression of the new Etro Home Interiors aesthetic, Cushy is the furnishing line that is the protagonist of the 2023 collection. Consisting of a sofa, armchair, chaise longue and pouf, it is characterised by soft, natural features while the upholstery in the new Pluma, Amanti and Onda fabrics, available in three different colour themes, enhances the full volumes of the seats.

The Dahlia armchair is presented in the three colour variations of the Pluma print. The modular Ease sofa, modern and essential, allows for the creation of customised and versatile configurations while the presence of large cushions amplifies the sense of comfort. Ratio, a geometrically shaped sofa characterised by upholstery with decorative stitching, expresses the sartorial quality of the Etro Home Interiors brand.

The Levity armchair, on the other hand, stands out for its sophisticated design and eclectic style in which retro inspiration and contemporary aesthetics meet. The minimalist structure that gives life to the legs and armrests contrasts with the full volumes of the inclined seat, which is particularly comfortable. Completing the rooms are new table models: Double, with its minimalist aesthetic, Lagoon, with its contemporary look, and Fly Over, inspired by the mood of the 1950s
