Courtyard Takes On Europe

The Courtyard brand continues its strategy of expansion: openings in various European countries are planned over the next two years, including in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Romania, and Croatia

After the opening of the new hotel, located in the centre of the German city of Hamburg, which has 276 rooms and provides all necessary services for hosting company events and conferences, Courtyard by Marriot is planning to inaugurate, over the next two years, hotels in many other European countries as well.

The new business hotels will be launched in countries where Courtyard by Marriot is already present, like France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Plus, new markets, like Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest Floreasca, Armenia (Yerevan), Croatia (Split), Finland (Tampere), Iceland (Keflavik), Georgia (Batumi), and Macedonia (Skopje) will be explored as well. These new hotels will contribute to further increasing the already high numbers that this specialised brand enjoys in the category of “select service” accommodations which host guests in 1,100 cities and in over 50 countries worldwide.

In fact, the Marriot International brand will be exporting its company philosophy, aimed particularly at satisfying the needs of “business travellers”. John Licence, Vice President of Premium and Select Brands for Marriott International Europe, affirms: “Our guests are passionate people, committed to their work and to achieving success. Courtyard by Marriott has adapted its growth strategy to offer more choices in new commercial areas, combining innovative technology with style and comfort.”

The brand’s rapid growth is primarily stimulated by its franchising partners. “On the one hand, owners see that the brand continues to grow and to adapt itself to changes in the way our guests work and travel,” explains Carlton Ervin, Chief Development Officer of Marriott International Europe. “On the other hand, they know that they can count on our European development teams and on our internal skills in areas like special planning, efficiency of design, and evaluation of building costs. This winning combination makes it possible for us to collaborate on new real estate conversion and redevelopment opportunities, always guaranteeing a rapid entrance into the market.”

2018 was full of new collaborations for Courtyard by Marriot. Of note is the multi-year partnership with FC Bayern, thus becoming the official hotel partner of Germany’s champion football club.
