B&B buys Azucena

The collections of the company founded in 1947 will join those created by B&B Italia brands, Maxalto and Arclinea. The 20 products designed by Luigi Caccia Dominioni will go on sale in October

The B&B Italia Group has bought Azucena, a historic Italian brand founded in 1947 by architects Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella and Corrado Corradi Dell’Acqua. The brand was created to market the three designers’ projects for the furniture sector and it is named after the gypsy in the opera Il trovatore. The aim is to further strengthen the brand’s position in the international high-end design sector and the Azucena collections will join those by B&B Italia, Maxalto and Arclinea.

This is not the only news recently announced by the company, which is based in Novedrate. Starting from October, B&B will market the re-editions of the first 20 products designed by Luigi Caccia Dominioni, a master of post-war design and architecture, which were presented in April during the Salone del Mobile in Milan. The most iconic pieces in the series include the Catilina chair (including in low, small and stool versions); ABCD (with a sofa version), Toro (with sofa and pouf versions), Pole Position, Nonaro (with sofa, chair, coffee table and stool versions) and Chinotto armchairs; the Cilindro pouf; the Cavalletto, Fasce Cromate and Fascia Specchiata tables and coffee tables; and the Poltrona, Base Ghisa, Monachella and Imbuto lamps.

Currently, the company is divided into two parts: the Home division, which is part of the high-end kitchen segment and the Contract division, which features furniture for hospitality, retail, offices and boats.
The B&B Italia Group has around 600 employees and has always had a strong international vocation: it has 8 flagship stores and 40 single-brand stores distributed throughout the world and has developed a presence in over 800 specialist stores. It exports around 84% of its products and has an annual turnover of 212 million euro.
