At first glance, the weaves create rigorous, linear, hypnotic compositions. But going beyond formal expression, the rugs reach a deeper, more imaginative dimension, full of mythological and geographical references that the designer draws inspiration from. Marco Lavit recreates these themes dear to him in the Finis Terrae collection for Lelièvre Paris.
Three models – Glauko, Purro and Xantho – play with geometry and color fields to generate an unexpected horizon, a space in which to immerse yourself and let your imagination take you away.
The Rossella Colombari gallery celebrates the collection’s dynamic and evocative character on the occasion of the “GEOMETRIE” exhibition staged at the Milan location, Via Maroncelli 10. The project, with selection and set-up curated by Rossella Colombari, recounts the work of Marco Lavit and his first collaboration with the Parisian brand. Protagonists, then, are the three carpets and two unreleased, limited-edition pieces designed specifically for the exhibition, which become works of art to be contemplated, for the harmony they generate in their rhythmic singularity as much as in relation to the space and what is kept there.
The designer steps in to explain the careful arrangement of lines and colors on these textile surfaces. The spatial boundary and myth is referred to is the mysterious world of the region of the ancient Mani, the Greek peninsula that juts out as a natural watershed between the Aegean and Ionian seas (and it is the Glauko pattern that first represents it), at the end of which mythology placed the entrance to Hades (Purro is the spokesman for this place), right on the extreme southern edge of mainland Greece, surrounded by the Mediterranean and bathed in its sun, and in the distance the mirage of the sandy shores of Africa (here then is Xantho).
Marco Lavit and Lelièvre Paris thus give further meaning to a scenic element of decoration, which becomes a journey of the imagination, an interweaving of places and times.
