With a new location inside the Red Apple building, a skyscraper ‘in red’ in the heart of Rotterdam designed by the Dutch firm KCAP, Galerie VIVID unveils its iconic pieces. From the Red & Blue chair by Gerrit Rietveld to limited editions by famous artists and designers on the international scene – Maarten Baas, Piet Zwart, Richard Woods, Jonathan Nesci, just to name a few – the gallery was one of the first to show contemporary creativity in the fields of both design and art.
In contact with the most outstanding museums in Europe and the United States, and showing collectibles at fairs like DesignMiami and ArtBasel, VIVID is known for its painstaking research on rare one-of-a-kind pieces, and for the creation of important exhibitions at its location. Remarkable shows include those on Ettore Sottsass, Hella Jongerius, Studio Job, Atelier Van Lieshout, Jaime Hayon, two retrospectives on Gerrit Rietveld, an exhibition on the Bauhaus in 2019 and Dutch Design Port produced in 2007 in New York, in the spaces of Milk Gallery.
There are also impressive installations, such as the recent “Art Rotterdam” where VIVID presented works by Vladimir & Georgii Stenberg, Esther Tielemans, Lily van der Stokker, Jason Fox, André Volten, Robert Cottingham… With the idea of creating a stage to present works without distinctions of ‘genre or gender,’ the founders and directors Saskia Copper and Aad Krol give rise to narrative pathways involving constant dialogue between art, design and decorative crafts. In a magnificent vision of the sublime.
