Geometric games of light and shadow in design projects set the tone of the production of Erco, a leader in the field of window frames to meet contemporary tastes, and of Mandelli1953, part of Gruppo Erco, which has gained widespread international recognition in the home décor sector in nearly 70 years of know-how “Made in Italy,” through continuing research on materials and forms.

A linear, clean grammar has been applied by Giuseppe Bavuso for his innovative Flow system of sliding frames designed for Erco, conceived for large glass surfaces: thanks to very slim sections, the ‘total glass’ effect is a continuing reference to minimalism, contemporary taste and a lifestyle that puts human beings back into contact with the surrounding environment and nature.

Produced to measure, Flow permits the use of sliding windows of large size, with panel proportions up to 3000 mm x 2950, for a weight of up to 400 kg. The sections are so thin as to be nearly invisible from the outside, and vanish completely into the walls, with the sole presence of a central joint of 60 mm.

The versatility of the project extends to the wide choice of finishes: for interiors, Bavuso has focused on the warmth and timeless charm of wood, especially in a blanched version evoking Nordic style, or with RAL and NCS lacquer finishes; for the exteriors, a wide range of solutions are available, to create harmony with any type of façade structure.

The press presentation of Flow – in Varese, with Bavuso taking part – as also an opportunity to talk about an initiative of Mandelli1953, a project of cultural and productive value that is a tribute to Italian design, and more: the Archivi collection of Mandelli1953, which includes the MM80, a handle designed by Marcello Morandini (born in 1940, a versatile artist-designer, whose Foundation has been opened precise in Varese), reissued in 2020 and a winner of the Red Dot Design Award in the category Product Design 2021.

Focusing on reissues and original creations of architects, artists and designers, the collection (of which MM80 is the second episode) represents another step forward in the company’s research on creative stimuli from the past. The emphasis on creativity in forerunners of styles and forms projected into the future confirms the goal of Mandelli1953 to stand out as a brand dedicated to constant development of new design solutions, recognized as one of the leading manufacturers of high-quality 100% Italian handles.
