In the erudite spirit of Milan, near Teatro alla Scala, the new flagship store of Fendi Casa opens today. A space of big numbers: 700 square meters inside a historic building on two levels, and 13 streetfront windows. The interior design is linear and characterised by a recurring element: the round arch that evokes the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana in Rome, the Maison’s headquarters. The space is organised in a number of different environments: living, dining, bedroom and outdoor settings. Experienced one after the other, they describe the many facets of a complex, choral idea of design.

For the opening, four windows and the entrance host “gallery pieces” created by the African designer Peter Mabeo, part of the KOMPA collection presented in December at Design Miami/ 2021, based on creative collaboration between Mabeo and the artistic directors of Fendi, Kim Jones, Silvia Venturini Fendi and Delfina Delettrez Fendi.

The Fendi Casa collection on view inside the store is composed of items designed by a portfolio of talents, each with a specific identity: Studio Marcel Wanders, Atelier Oï, Thierry Lemaire, Toan Nguyen, Cristina Celestino (also brought by Fendi to Design Miami/ in 2016, with the installation The Happy Room), Chiara Andreatti, Piero Lissoni, Dimorestudio.

Every space is enhanced by accessories, complements and carpets: Yellow Sign, with a brushstroke in the symbolic color of the maison; Tiles, reprising the stripes of the Pequin pattern created by Fendi in 1987; Karligraphy, designed by Karl Lagerfeld, where a graphic monogram joining the letters F and L becomes a pattern.

The facility in Milan is the first boutique for Fendi Casa, and other openings are already planned around the world, starting with Miami and Shanghai. In 1987 Anna Fendi was the first entrepreneur to insert an interior design division in a fashion company. In May 2021, with the creation of FF Design (Fashion Furniture Design), a joint venture of Design Holding and Fendi, this intuition evolves into a new chapter in its history. A story that ideally unites fashion and design, making them embody a single unique style.
