Cc-tapis, the brand founded in 2011 specializing in the production of very original contemporary carpets crafted by hand in Nepal, celebrates its 10th anniversary.
“We met ten years ago in Milan, and quite irresponsibly plunged into the idea of making new carpets,” say the founders Nelcya Chamszadeh, Fabrizio Cantoni and Daniele Lora. The first spark came many years earlier, when Nelcya and Fabrizio met, who were then to form a couple in work and in life, hence the initials ‘cc’ of their surnames. From Strasbourg, where they had a store, Nelcya and Fabrizio moved to Milan and met Daniele Lora. The rest is history, based on elective affinities.
“We have always been light-hearted, even when doing serious things,” the trio admit, with a smile and eyes shining with new ideas. “We arrived in Milan with the idea of selling carpets here, which did not happen – they laughingly admit – but this city has given us a lot in other ways, allowing us to enter into interesting collaborations, like the one with Patricia Urquiola, one of the first people who believed in us.”
For the anniversary, they have produced “One Night in Milan,” in fact, a new photographic ad campaign shot by Piotr Niepsuj with art direction by Apartamento Studios, set in three hotels in the city with ten carpets, one for each year. The idea, Daniele explains, “was to make the carpets be like actors in various hotel rooms, from one-star units on Via Porpora to the big luxury hotels. The project had been in the making for many years, so it seemed like the right time to complete it, for our 10th birthday.”
The brand is also presenting a manifesto, which is not a program but an expression of love for the art of hand-tufted carpets (Nelcya inherits this passion from her father, a master of Persian carpets), reinterpreted with verve, freshness, contemporary style and sustainability.
Other new developments include an e-commerce project, in which to narrate custom capsule collections and exclusive products, and many new collaborations, with the likes of Bethan Gray, Bethan Laura Wood, Cristian Mohaded, Muller Van Severen, Edoardo Piermattei (born in 1992), Patricia Urquiola, India Mahdavi, also with other brands, like the American firm Apparatus and Maison Matisse by Cristina Celestino.
