A piece of furniture is not just a product. It is also the experience it makes you have, the story it tells, the emotions it transmits over time. In a historical period of speed, where fleeting moments are acted out on the social networks, the company that is a synonym for the culture of leather presents Connecting Experiences, the new concept for the 2019 collection, in London during that city’s Design Week. The idea behind the collection is to put the accent back on the relationship between products and people.
Lasting products, to pass down from one generation to the next, where leather is the protagonist – elegant, precious, natural – a living material that changes in time and communicates something about us. Among the new items, the reissues of icons like the 1919 armchair, a symbol of Poltrona Frau, with its classic forms and precious capitonné work: for the centenary, Roberto Lazzeroni, together with the Poltrona Frau Style & Design Center, has revised the proportions, now in a larger version, completed by the Glenn ottoman-bench. Another reissue is the Turner freestanding rotating bookcase designed by Gianfranco Frattini in 1963, a piece that still stands out today for its originality and innovation.
These pieces are joined by carpets based on two original designs by the Swiss graphic artist Max Huber, with patterns and motifs between the rigor of the Bauhaus and the rhythms of jazz. Apart from the past, the showroom on Fulham Road in London presents many new projects: the Get Back seating system by Ludovica & Roberto Palomba, for total relaxation after a hard day’s work; the Martha chair by Roberto Lazzeroni, with open, sinuous lines; the Rips vase-sculpture by Carina Seth Andersson, in blown glass crafted by Venetian masters.
And Coupé by GamFratesi, a bed whose name already suggests aerodynamic lines, in a tribute to the classic elegance of the great sports cars. Finally, the Grant system of ottomans, by French designer Tristan Auer, is a versatile system of seating components to combine as in the game of Tangram.
