Milan is a continuous flow. The sixth edition of the Milano Design Film Festival has just come to a close a few months ago and it is already thinking of the seventh edition that will take place from 24 to 27 October. The event is now an established appointment that year after year sees its audience increasing and expanding beyond the confines of design and architecture. Probably because it is an exchange between the two worlds; where one can discover design through cinema and cinema through design.

The 2019 edition brings a great deal of new things with it. Starting with Alice Rawsthorn, historic signature of the New York Times, director of the London Design Museum from 2001 to 2006 and winner of the OBE (Order of the British Empire) for services rendered to design and the arts, who will be the guest curator of the event. Furthermore, she will support the founders Antonella Dedini and Silvia Robertazzi and the curator Porzia Bergamasco, proposing her own selection of films in parallel to the main programme of the event.

It will also be the first year in which the Architecture Film Award will be given, an international award dedicated to cinema and architecture instituted by the Milano Design Film Festival and the Fondazione degli Architetti, P.P.C. of the province of Milan. The AFA, awarded every two years, will be chaired by Marco Müller, historian and cinema critic, and will give a € 7,000 award to the best feature film dedicated to the history of architecture and € 3,000 to audio-visual projects.

The opening will take place at the Triennale, but it is the Anteo cinema where the more than 60 films will be projected. However, it will not be necessary to wait until 24 October for the first projections: The Experimental City, a documentary based on the comic book author Athelstan Spilhaus, is scheduled for 10 March, while Bauhaus Spirit, dedicated to the school founded by Walter Gropius, will be screened on 7 April.
