The 2018 Porada International Design Award speaks Italian. The jury selected six winners (three in the professional category and three in the student category) in the competition promoted by Porada Arredi srl and POLI.design and sponsored by ADI, Association for Industrial Design.
The award ceremony took place at Villa del Grumello, Como, and the pieces that won first place in their respective categories were Screen by Simone Alberto Gerbino and Ninfea by Niccolò Devetag.
The competition attracted great interest. In fact, 209 projects were presented to the selection committee: 101 in the professional category and 108 in the student category. Many of these were submitted from abroad, from countries like Australia, Japan, Iran, South America, Eastern Europe, and Turkey. The jury awarded innovative and original designs for desk & coiffeuse solutions capable of representing the distinctive values of a brand like Porada, that is a protagonist of Italian design.
Screen was awarded for its versatility (it can be used as both a coiffeuse and a desk) and was distinguished by its solid wood craftsmanship, the defining attribute of the identity of the piece, and use of various other materials (brushed brass, black matte metal).
Furthermore, the product stands out for its elegance and functionality, in line with Porada’s requirements. Whirl by Turkish Ufuk Seçgel and Odette by Arianna Vivenzio are the other two projects which won in the professional category.
Ninfea draws inspiration from the fluid and stylized pools of water represented Karensasui. The structure, made up of a steel tube framework, supports a surface composed of a table top available in various materials and a hardwood frame. The upper bar of the structure is conceived to equip this object, according to one’s needs, with a mirror or small shelf, or as a support for lamps and accessories.
Punti di vista by Chiara Molinari and Split Table by Vietnamese Nguyen Vuong won second and third prize, respectively.
