Magis’ design returns to colour New York’s lively Times Square during NYCxDesign. Design Pavilion is overseeing the exhibition, presenting its special format that combines cultural value with marketing experience always focused on design.
Thus Magis, in line with Design Pavilion’s ‘manifesto’, is expanding its communicative power by expressing its approach to innovation and originality not only through products, but also through an unprecedented competition involving the local community, schools and design students for the development of the visual design of the installation in Times Square.
On the one hand, the bold geometries of Chair_One by Konstantin Grcic, the sinuous simplicity of the Milà chair by Jaime Hayon, and the amusing appeal of Thomas Heatherwick’s iconic Spun and Eero Aarnio’s Puppy parade.
On the other, the variegated shades and formal expressions of the products are perfectly contextualized in the visual scenography that bears the signature of the three winning projects of the Magis Mural Competition: Lizzy Itzkowitz, (School of Visual Arts), Heng Zeng (Syracuse University) and Wenkai Mao (School of Visual Arts).
The competition was organised in collaboration with Arts Thread International (based in London) and Herman Miller, an exclusive distributor of Magis products in the US and Canada; the jury that selected the projects includes Ilene Shaw, Design Pavilion’s Producer and Founder, Harry Allen, President and Chief Creative at Harry Allen Design and Design Pavilion’s Creative Director, and Barbara Minetto, Communication & Marketing Manager at Magis.
