Milan is looking forward to the Tortona Design Week

March started with the presentation of the Tortona Design Week, which will take place from April 12 in the innovative Tortona hub. MUDEC, Armani/Silos and BASE Milano, renowned names of the Milanese cultural life, will guide the promotion the awaited event of the Fuorisalone.

The Milanese district, incubator of cultural progress and “territorial marketing case and example of the city we would like to have”, according to the Assessor Franco D’Alfonso, will become a design, fashion and cultural forge. Last year the number of visitors (115,000 total attendees for 180 events) proved the importance of the international kermesse, which represented over 20 countries last year.

Designers such as Marcel Wanders, Maarten Baas, Mario Cucinella, Mario Bellini, Paola Navone, Naoto Fukasawa and Karim Rashid will propose their pioneering concepts in an exclusive preview, while a never-ending succession of happenings located in the different venues of the district will follow.

BASE Milano launches its new space on March 30, 2016 at the ex Ansaldo area, and during the Tortona Design Week it will turn into birthplace of new startups.

One of the most expected events is Human Cities, that will showcase the results of a four-year project dedicated to the link between urban creativity and sustainability, involving 11 European institutions. The BASE space will also act as a Design Centre where meetings, presentations and exhibitions will take place.

Focal point is also the MUDEC with his permanent collection inaugurated last year, full of valued exhibitions, but especially Sempering, an exhibit curated by Luisa Collina and Cino Zucchi focused on themes concerning material manipulation in the final architectural project.

Associazione Tortona Area Lab will make available Architours, guided by sector experts that will visit Tortona’s most important locations, an occasion to deepen knowledge.
