It will be four full days starting from March 9, 2016 at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre. The new edition of the Design Shanghai is around the corner, with its variety of visitors (over 40,000 attendees for the last year) and exhibitions: due also to the involvement of more than 300 international brands in the Classic, Design and Collector’s pieces sectors, a few global top galleries, as well as a program full of events and a rich parterre of art installations. The Design Shanghai aims to encourage both local and international design, at the center of a very dynamic market, which increased the design industry by 13% (according to the figures at the end of 2015).
The Zotem version by the norwegian designer Kim Thomè for Swarovski is one of the most visible exhibits. The name recalls an original, modern idea of totem, combined with Swarovski crystals. Colorful prisms featuring infinite optical illusions. Last year the brand presented Prologue, by Patrik Fredrikson and Ian Stallard. A monumental and circular sculpture shaped by 8,000 blue-shade Swarovski crystal droplets within a galvanised steel frame.
Glass has a leading role in Supernova, Petra Krausova sculpture. By changing perspective, the sculpure creates fascinating illusions and trasforms itself in both time and space.
The winner of last Emerging Chinese Designer Award, Chen Furong, will present his new furniture collection crafted in stone and metal, while the YANG HOUSE follows a different direction and uses wood to remember the traditional chinese handcrafts. His New Craftsmanship will be exposed in the Classic Design Hall. Among the exhibits in the limelight, Oriental Aesthetic combines virtual reality, interactive devices and traditional oriental elements. The new edition introduces also The IDEAT Future Award that will reward the best international design products and brands splited in nine categories.
