Clerkenwell and its Design Week

Now in its sixth year Clerkenwell Design Week 2015 will bring in one space-event Clerkenwell’s design community together from 19th to 21th of May.

Every year the festival presents new design projects and street spectacles, commissioned specially for the festival and featured prominently around Clerkenwell. Signed by some of the leading pioneers in the creative industry, these projects aim to push the boundaries of design, in terms of concepts, process and material capabilities.

Integral to the festival are the local resident design showrooms, who partner with Clerkenwell Design Week every year, providing the festival with a stimulating programme of topic-led events including talks, workshops and product launches. These participating companies include high-end furniture, lighting, kitchen and bathroom brands and also material manufacturers.

The festival will be centred upon leading design showrooms in the neighbourhood, as well as four exhibitionsDesign Factory, Platform, Detail and Additions. The first one, at The Farmiloe Building will showcase leading furniture, lighting and product design from around the world. In the subterranean House of Detention, Platform is a show that recognises some of the world’s most exciting up-and-coming design talent. Detail at The Order of St. John reflects principles of fine craftsmanship and high glamour, showcasing the best and most prestigious names in the luxury interiors world. Additions is dedicated to small design pieces and interior accessories. The show, taking place at the Crypt on the Green, St. James Church, presents a carefully curated group of international brands and emerging talent.

In 2014, 32,300 visitors attended the festival; in total 57% of the visitors were architects and designers, a 10% increase to 2013.
