For the new collection of ELIE SAAB Maison, the Lebanese designer has chosen a particularly evocative title: Nights of Wonder. The wonder is that of the nighttime sky in the Arabian desert, brightened by thousands of stars, over an endless panorama of dunes. In the flagship showroom at Via Sant’Andrea 23, in the center of Milan, the space has been transformed to suggest desert atmospheres and the timeless beauty that generates an idea of elegance that combines Art Deco memories with totally contemporary refinement.
Nights of Wonder is the result of collaboration and dialogue between Elie Saab and Carlo Colombo, whose rigorous and sophisticated attention to detail can be seen in every object of the collection. The most daring piece is the Lobster Armchair, whose structure in curved bands reminds the viewer of the shell of a lobster: every part of this seat-sculpture is clad to offer maximum comfort, and the metal tubing with a reflecting nickel finish brings a sense of vaguely Seventies glamor.
Other key items of the collection include the Layl bed, with a light canopy that links back to the grandeur of aristocratic palaces, and the vanity desk Ara, with its essential design and refined details: a piece totally devoted to personal care.
In the design philosophy of ELIE SAAB Maison the dining table – where the family gathers – plays a central role. There are two of them in the new collection, Monogram and Lunula, respectively circular and elliptical, with tops in marble or fine wood varieties placed on a sculptural base in which the perforated logo of the Maison is multiplied. In the first, the base is a cylinder, while for the second it consists of three semi-circular elements. Another very important creation is the Legacy sofa, a system for many different configurations, whose ideal partner is the Horizon bookcase, a furniture-sculpture that adds rhythm to the space.
