Vitra, the internationally renowned brand offering timeless furniture created by some of the most important designers in the world and in history, has chosen the Salamanca district, in Castello 19, as the location for its first single-brand showroom in Madrid. Salamanca, in fact, has become a meeting point over the years for the architecture and design community, and the home of many premium design brands.
The facility of 450 square meters is located in a building designed by the Spanish architect Antonio Palacios, originally made to contain one of the power plants of the city’s subway system. It was later transformed as a garage, and then became the headquarters of an architecture firm.
The refurbishing completed by Vitra underscores the architectural characteristics of the building: the luminous open space, featuring a steel structure with a glass roof, highlights the arrangement of the bricks and other original construction parts: carefully coordinated materials and colors are combined with a new lighting concept to generate a harmonious atmosphere. The space becomes ideal as a corporate headquarters and a platform where clients and partners can experience the company’s vision of the office, collaborating on personalized projects.
Inside the new showroom, architects and sector professionals will be able to find innovative ideas for the office environment, with a particular focus on the most up-to-date interpretations of the world of work: teamwork and flexible methods. The showroom unfolds with a central area marked by multifunctional characteristics, calling for shared spaces and quieter areas for meetings and tasks requiring concentration. There are also more informal zones, as in the kitchen and the café, encouraging hybrid scenarios.
The location also welcomes the Vitra Colour & Material Library and a Task Chair Lab, displaying different concepts and product solutions that convey the inimitable qualities of the brand. The showroom is open by appointment and does not sell products directly.
