The total philosophy of Norm Architects has gone into the Soffio upholstered furniture collection designed for Lema. The collaboration between the architecture and interior design studio based in Copenhagen and the brand of design Made in Italy continues in a creative synergy focusing on mutual research on the themes of wellbeing, identity, exploration of new horizons that transcend time and fashions. This encounter of kindred spirits has led to projects like the Claire armchair, the Fred chairs and the Francis tables.

Soffio is the latest achievement based on this tandem approach: a line that includes an armchair and sofas, in which the studio sums up its most authentic thinking, the concept of “Soft Minimalism” in their words, a balance of luxury and moderation, order and complexity, simplicity and depth, reaching “harmonious results of lasting impact,” the architects say. “Rational architecture becomes poetic, minimalist furnishings take on softness, in an aesthetic driven by nature that becomes sensorial appeal.”

Soffio is thus an invitation into relaxation and comfort: the armrests, back and seats have been envisioned as large cushions, “a tactile design that embraces the mind and body,” fully reflecting the studio’s philosophy. The materiality of Soffio is another key aspect of the design, together with aesthetics. This seating family is made with recycled and recyclable materials. The structure is in FSC® plywood and supports to soft padded cushions with a fiber derived from recycled material.

The range of available fabric collections includes two new coverings with low environmental impact: the first, Ofelia, is a fabric composed of GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified recycled cotton; Ariel, on the other hand, very soft to the touch and particularly strong, is a chenille made with recycled PET yarns. In a perspective of circular economy, the chair and sofa have been formulated for easy disassembly, ready for correct processing at the end of the life cycle, in total respect for the environment.

The arrival point of lengthy experimentation on materials and techniques of workmanship, Soffio thus complies with the canons of contemporary design, while at the same time it responds to modern needs in living spaces thanks to a wide variety of elements provided for the sofa and the armchair: the compositions become open and hospitable, in close relation with a context of multifunctional living.
