A narrative across more than 60 years comes to life in the spaces of Triennale Milano. A story told in depth, through a large selection of works, projects, documents and materials (from the archives of Fondazione Angelo Mangiarotti), including many items never previously exhibited.

The exhibition “Angelo Mangiarotti: When Structures Take Shape” provides a portrait of one of the protagonists of international architecture and urbanism, one of the few Italian masters who was able to export his design philosophy. A complete overview of his intense career and working method.

The choral approach includes contributions by Fulvio Irace as curator, Francesca Albani, Franz Graf (architecture), Luca Pietro Nicoletti (sculpture), Marco Sammicheli (design), with the support of Giulio Barazzetta. The exhibit design is by the studio Ottavio Di Blasi & Partners with the participation of Renzo Piano, and the support of UniFor for the implementation.

In the context of Triennale Milano’s focus on the great Italian masters of design, from Enzo Mari to Ettore Sottsass, Achille Castiglioni to Pietro Lingeri, Angelo Mangiarotti is presented as a “versatile and international figure who produced excellent experiments in the fields of architecture, design, sculpture and infrastructures – says Stefano Boeri, President of Triennale Milano. – The retrospective conveys the historical impact of this central exponent of design in the 20th century.”
Platforms display models, prototypes, creations and fragments, organized by theme from the node to the joint, from sculpture to assemblage, from abstraction to sensuality – covering over half a century of activity and directly conveying the experimental character of Mangiarotti’s atelier-workshop.

The involvement of UniFor in the creation of the show is not just based on the company’s ongoing focus on the cultural heritage of Italian design; it is also the result of a direct relationship with the architect, who designed many pieces for UniFor, as well as the corporate facility at Turate (from 1970 to 1985). Molteni Group has also sustained the video production that accompanies the exhibition, titled “Un Angelo su Milano: Mangiarotti e la città,” coordinated by Fulvio Irace, with directing by Francesca Molteni, produced by Muse Factory of Projects in collaboration with Fondazione Angelo Mangiarotti. The Molteni Museum will also present a focus on the relationship between the companies of Molteni Group and Angelo Mangiarotti, from 2 March to 30 September 2023.
