HostMilano has always been a global hub of technological innovation in the HoReCa, sector, but in recent years it has also been a reference point for the world of contract furnishings, setting trends in terms of format and design. The same is true of the outdoor furniture industry, which is going through an important comeback thanks to the reopening of cafés and restaurants.
Reshoring and cocooning: trends
What are the most interesting trends? From an industrial standpoint, interruptions of global supply chains are accelerating ‘reshoring,’ with a preference for local, high-quality and sustainable products. There is also a growing focus on research on materials, and the formulation of streamlined production processes that consume less energy.
And from the viewpoint of users? Adaptability, ergonomics and functional quality in elegant design, attention to detail and sustainability are the key terms for outdoor furnishings over the next few years. Without leaving comfort out of the picture: in fact, one of the most important consumer trends emerging from the pandemic – and promising to continue – is the so-called dimension of ‘cocooning’: the desire to feel comfortable and cuddled, as on a sofa inside the house, also during moments of open-air socializing.
Appointment at HostMilano 2023
These trends will be on view at the next edition of HostMilano, at Fieramilano from 13 to 17 October 2023, especially in the section on Décor & Technology. Tables and seating, lighting, furniture and complements are just some of the products visitors will find in this area. They will discover not just products but also formats, concept stores and more original ‘hybrid’ settings. Along with the most innovative technologies that permeate every aspect of décor, starting with the selection of unusual, refined and eco-friendly materials.
An important moment for the identification and sharing of innovation, design and sustainability will be the Smart Label – Host Innovation Award, for novel developments in the field of professional hospitality, organized by HostMilano and Fiera Milano in partnership with POLI.design, with the support of ADI – Associazione per il Disegno Industriale. With three categories – Smart Label (characteristic innovative content), Innovation Smart Label (surpassing of established trends) and Green Smart Label (distinctive characteristics of sustainability), the awards will be assigned by a jury composed of professors at the Milan Polytechnic and experts in these sectors.
