In a vision of an increasingly green future. Installations, design talks and performances narrate innovation in living space: from Sound & Vision organized by the American Design Club, an interaction of design, technology and sound, to Fernando Mastrangelo Studio FM/S with the sensory project Tiny House, all the way to the avant-garde Ecocapsule and the Virginia Tech FutureHAUS.

FutureHaus

The winner of the international competition Solar Decathlon Middle East, the solar dwelling designed by over 100 students and teachers at the Virginia Tech School of Architecture+Design is a masterpiece of sustainability, flexibility, functional and aesthetic quality: a transformable house equipped with 67 digital devices, touchscreen control panels that move the walls, automatic sliding doors, a 3D-printed sink – in collaboration with Kohler – and a smart mirror the helps people to find their clothes. The FutureHAUS on view at Times Square has the support of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dominion Energy, Kohler Corporation.

A curious carousel created by SVA NYC stands out in the square: with the evocative name Chairousel, the traditional horses are replaced by exceptionally eclectic seats, while new ideas for urban spaces are proposed by TSQ Design Lab, like the Rely bench by New York-based Joe Doucet and Belgian partners using the innovative Concrenetics 3D printing technology in concrete, in a joint venture with Urba-Style (BE) and Loughborough University (UK).

The largest private yacht maker Azimut | Benetti Group, on the other hand, reveals its 60-foot model – with interiors by Francesco Guida – and in collaboration with One Ocean Foundation for the Design Pavilion invites visitors to workshops on the future of the oceans, while launching the competition CAN YOU SEA THE FUTURE? through Arts Thread, in a challenge to design a new yacht using the avant-garde technologies made available by the brand. A choral celebration of future design.
