Downtown Design Dubai would not be the same without contemporary reinterpretations of iconic MDF Italia pieces such as Sign, designed by Piergiorgio Cazzaniga which this year celebrated its tenth anniversary with its latest version, Sign Filo. A seat which constitutes an evolution of the original project, reinterpreted through an extremely light structure consisting of 45 metres of thin, manually assembled wires, where craftsmanship evokes the ancient goldsmith art of filigree. Seven colour versions of the Sign baby version in polyethylene are also on display, designed and scaled down for 3 to 10 year old children.
Then there’s Cosy, a family of modular upholstered elements designed by Francesco Rota, with seats in a variety of depths and lengths, straight or corner backs, also in a variety of heights, side tables, accessories and cushions: a remarkably versatile system which enables the creation of personalised compositions, suitable for a wide array of interiors and situations. Fuji, a collection of ottoman-seats, is also by Rota, covered in different fabrics and colours and characterised by a trapezoidal silhouette, evoking the eponymous volcano’s cone.
The renewed version of the Random bookshelf by Neuland Industriedesign is also on display, with two new size variations, Random 2C and 3C, for enhanced flexibility and freedom of configuration insofar as they can be used alone or matched with the Random module, outdoing total black with their latest pastel nuance.
The iconic S Table by Xavier Lust also makes an appearance in Dubai, in marble top versions.
