A world of light at Marina Bay

The scenic waterfront of Marina Bay is resplendent in a new light. Luminescent colour effects and dazzling art installations enhance the already picturesque bay of Singapore, which is once more hosting Light Marina Bay (3 – 26 March), now in its fifth year: 20 light installations inspired by sustainability, accompanied for the first time by three themed hubs, which together are intended to create an experiential path between light and nature.

In fact Light & Nature is the theme of this year’s festival, which brings together Singaporean and international artists in a swirl of light installations designed with energy-saving lamps or eco-friendly materials, to promote sustainable behaviour in everyday life.

Three separate hubs complement the event with just as many exhibits: The Promontory @ Marina Bay, The Float @ Marina Bay and the Bayfront Event Space.

A new development is the presence of five installations designed by students of the university and institutes (National University of Singapore, Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore University of Technology and Design, LASALLE College of the Arts and Raffles College of Higher Education), involving students from the local area and the whole community in creating the Ocean Pavillion, designed by Juke Jerram with 20,000 recycled bottles.
