ABWAB, a door for the Regions

The first edition of Dubai Design Week has been the perfect time to launch a new initative, Abwab, that, through six pavillions, aims to celebrate and showcase the work of designers, studios and curators from six different countries in the MENASA region.

Abwab, which means ‘doors’ in Arabic, represents a direct portal to the region’s local design talent, who can benefit from a such international and culturally lively display as the Dubai Design Week.

The creatives have been called to generate never before-seen design content under one unifying theme, this year being Games: The Element of Play in Culture, under the supervision of a curator from each participating country: Jordan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and the UAE, the protagonists involved in the initiative.

The project of Abwab pavilions was created by Loci Architecture + Design studio, which used local materials for their realization, integrating the expositive structures inside the open-plan d3 hub.
