In its first contribution to the FuoriSalone during Milano Design Week, Rossinavi, a shipyard specialized in the creation of custom superyachts, put the accent on sustainability. At Superstudio, Via Tortona 27, the company presented Blue, an immersive installation of great impact, a sort of plunge into the depths of the sea in which to directly experience phytoplankton and underwater life. Above, on the surface of the sea, a new generation of zero-emission catamarans roams the world.

The stand also featured the model of Oneiric, the new multihull line developed in collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), now at its third nautical project (the first was the small Z Boat in 2012, which was followed in 2013 by Jazz, 128 meters designed for the German Blohm+Voss shipyard, a large exoskeleton that takes its inspiration from marine life).

Oneiric is a multihull with solar panels built into the design, feeding a very efficient system of batteries. A control center with artificial intelligence monitors energy consumption and the yacht’s impact on the ecosystem. The Oneiric project provides a full day of cruising at 100% full-electric mode with zero emissions. With enough range to cross the Atlantic, namely about 5000 nautical miles, the vessel can travel in full-electric mode for 70% of the time (preventing about 40 tons of CO2 emissions as compared to a traditional yacht).

Oneiric offers great originality, as is to be expected from the London-based studio, with external and internal design that takes its cue from the fluidity and dynamism of the waves of the ocean. Sinuous lines and reflecting surfaces shape the exteriors, and are endlessly replicated inside, eliminating any architectural barrier between outdoors and indoors.

The interiors provide many multifunctional zones and large areas for socializing, as well as an owner’s suite with a 180-degree view of the panorama outside, and a skylight that fills the space with natural light. Four other cabins are included for guests.

This project is a perfect reflection of the philosophy and technological innovation of Rossinavi: the inspiration comes from phytoplankton, a world of micro-organisms that convert sunlight into energy, and ensure over half of the annual production of oxygen on earth. This infinity of micro-organisms reminds us of the importance of working together: it is how we can contribute to safeguard the environment and to keep human beings alive and well.
