Parkroyal on Pickering. The Garden Experience

Designed by award-winning architectural firm WOHA and managed by Pan Pacific Hotels Group, Parkroyal on Pickering is Singapore’s first hotel-in-a-garden, a ground-breaking iconic structure inspired by its surroundings. A unique urban resort that is environmentally responsible, the hotel features over 15,000m2 of lush skygardens, reflecting pools, waterfalls, planter terraces, and cascading vertical greenery and is already hailed as an architectural stunner.

All towers of green-blue floor-to-ceiling windows create a
streamlined upper exterior. The design is
softened by over ten species of shaded trees, tall palm
flowering plants, leafy shrubs and overhanging creepers that
mirror the green areas of Hong Lim Park opposite. Undulating tiers in earthy tones, inspired by inverted rice paddy terraces, rise from the ground floor up ward screating atactile shape. The carefully designed combination strikes the balance for a resort-style property in an urban location.

The high ceilings of the hotel lobby continue the terraced rice paddy inspiration, with inverted tiered levels drawing the eye upwards. Mirrors and glass have been used to expand the sense of space and to reflect the natural light that floods through the floor-to-ceiling windows. A wooden walkway flanked by a water feature, reminiscent of a stream, leads guests seamlessly from the lobby through to Lime Restaurant. Guests pass below a mirror reflecting the ripples of water and alongside a dramatic “Living Wall” of self-sustaining green mosses and plants, bringing the outdoors inside through the design.Interior furnishings have been selected to reflect the natural elements of the design with shades of stone grey, rust red and forest green. Relaxed seating areas create an organic, inviting look.

The tropical setting and extensive landscaping spreads throughout the property. As much of the public spaces are externalised, guests walk through outdoor corridors lined with plants or walkways set within the four skygardens en route to their rooms.

The 367 guestrooms and suites are
 configured to allow as much
 natural light in as possible.
 Rooms are also equipped with
sliding walls in order to
maximise the sense of space.
 Every room features all-natural
 products with recycled
 composite granite used for
bathtubs, sinks and vanity tops. Elemental wood and stone finishes lend an organic feel, while soft colour hues – a palette of muted greens – combined with large windows, creates a light and airy ambience.

Parkroyal on Pickering’s dedicated wellness floor on level five features a two-storey descent waterfall, a 300m garden walk, and an infinity pool that flows along the edge of the hotel, overlooking Pickering Street. Colourful cabanas are positioned around the pool area, in varying colours inspired by Chinese songbird cages. Natural stone has been used throughout the level to enhance the resort- like natural feel.
