Oman’s long maritime history and its coastal configuration have inspired the shape of the luxurious St. Regis Al Mouj Muscat Resort. The wave-like silhouette – Al Mouj is, in fact, Arabic for “wave” – seems to reinforce the connection with the location, while simultaneously creating a completely innovative visual representation of the surrounding environment. Ibrahim Jaidah Architects and Engineers, who conceived it, have nestled it precisely between the backdrop of the majestic Omani landscapes and the blue waters of the ocean touched by golden sand.
A structure that reflects the vibrant essence of Omani culture, reinterpreted through the lens of innovation. The same is true for the interiors, designed by the London-based studio Smallwood, whose refined approach integrates architectural drama with understated elegance. «The lobby and reception area are designed to embrace the natural surroundings, with expansive floor-to-ceiling glass walls that open onto the pool deck, blurring the lines between indoor elegance and outdoor serenity».
An important art collection – curated by Jenny Maranca, an expert in the global art scene – transcends the simple decorative function to become a narrative medium of the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Through the furnishings, guests can also immerse themselves in an identity made of references to Omani tradition, mixed with the elegance of modern living. SRSS Interior Design Studio has created a marine-inspired aesthetic using a palette of oceanic blues and soft whites enriched by natural stone, leather-colored leather, and traditional motifs.
Wave patterns ripple across the carpets, nautical knots embellish the Lobby Lounge, and shades of azure, beige, and warm woods evoke the colors of a luxury yacht. «At the heart of the resort’s interior design», explain the architects, «is a reverence for the legacy of the St. Regis brand. The grand staircase, a hallmark of every St. Regis property, stands as a tribute to the original 1904 design in New York, embodying timeless luxury and architectural grandeur».
The grand staircase visually introduces the rooms: 196 Deluxe, 47 Suites, and 2 Royal & Presidential. Without ever abandoning the embrace of the surrounding nature, thanks to the large floor-to-ceiling windows that blur the boundaries between inside and outside. All that remains is to be lulled by the exclusive services offered by the resort, including the personalized butler service, a spa with a wellness menu specially curated by Guerlain, the menus offered by the 9 restaurants and cafes, and a prestigious 18-hole golf course.
