Light designs spaces, plays with them, gives them vitality and dynamism, and is a source of fun and warmth at the same time. With this in mind, for over forty years, Luceplan has been exploring the boundary between technology and beauty, giving shape to lighting solutions that combine innovation, functionality and refined aesthetics. Founded in 1978, the Milan-based company has established itself as a benchmark in the world of design, collaborating with internationally renowned designers and sensitively interpreting the needs of contemporary living. In fact, in a world where design can no longer ignore environmental responsibility, Luceplan also embraces a sustainable vision that spans every stage of its products’ life cycle, with the aim of reducing their impact on the environment without compromising on beauty.

Among its most recent creations is LIIU, a modular, lightweight and flexible suspension lighting system, the result of a collaboration with the Dutch studio VANTOT. Designed to embody a new idea of light, it offers a high-performance yet discreet solution that is both technical and poetic. Its structure consists of electrified metal cables connected to a ceiling rose or track, kept taut by counterweights.

The light fixtures are attached to the cables by thin, spiral arms that support the lamp head and provide power. The result is a suspended, dynamic and light composition, capable of transforming itself into true scenographic works, developing luminous walls or reading lamps, while always maintaining a strong sculptural identity. The light, diffused through a delicate cone, creates a soft and enveloping atmosphere that is never invasive.

The real strength of LIIU lies in its modularity: the system adapts naturally to different contexts — from hospitality to the office — responding to the needs for customisation and flexibility that the world of design requires. It is no coincidence that the collection has been selected for the ADI Design Index 2025, an award that recognises excellence in Italian design and allows participation in the Compasso d’Oro Award 2026.

To support this versatility, Luceplan has developed a digital configurator dedicated to this new product, designed for architects, interior designers and planners, which allows them to explore 35 predefined compositions — including linear and circular versions — or to create new, completely customised ones.

Every parameter can be modified: room height, shape, track type, cable length, number and arrangement of lamp bodies, power and power supply type. The step-by-step interface guides the user through a fluid creative process, culminating in a navigable and downloadable 3D visualisation, useful for inclusion in projects. With LIIU, Luceplan renews its commitment to the world of design, offering concrete tools to give shape to light. An invitation to design atmospheres, not just objects, where technology is at the service of emotion.
