Velasca Tower and Square, Milan, Italy

The rehabilitation work just completed involved the conservative restoration of the facades, the regeneration of the interior spaces, and the creation of the new square that strengthens the link with the city. Architect Asti‘s vision revitalizes Torre Velasca, weaving the iconic structure back into Milan’s urban fabric. The project, completed after extensive restoration, prioritizes sustainability and accessibility, achieving LEED Gold certification. Asti Architetti meticulously preserved the original ’50s design, restoring ceramic details, prized woods, and even the lobby’s unique lighting. A key architectural achievement is the custom-created plaster on the facades, giving the tower dynamic, shifting hues that respond to the light of day.

More than aesthetics, the project delivers a new, pedestrianized Piazza Velasca. Thoughtfully designed as a continuation of the Tower itself, the Piazza features greenery with olive trees, and magnolias, fostering an inclusive public space. Asti’s urban design intentionally minimizes street furniture, allowing the verdant landscape and strategic lighting to define areas for gathering and pause. The redesigned base connects Torre Velasca to the surrounding city, creating a vital hub enriched by renewed architectural expression. Restaurants, retail, business areas and wellness spaces will revitalize the historical tower, while ensuring sustainability.
