Sophisticated aesthetics, art, tradition, and modernity define the design by Neri&Hu Design and Research Office for the interiors of the Artyzen New Bund 31 Hotel and its directly connected Performing Arts Center. The complex is situated in the New Bund area of Pudong – Qiantan, showcasing the vibrancy of this metropolis.

In contrast, the designers envisioned contemporary oases of tranquility, achieving a perfect state of suspension with a balance of austerity and softness. This sanctuary invites calmness and serenity, particularly evident in the public areas, using materials like hand-molded crenellated concrete, structured terracotta bricks, stone, and custom-designed wooden furnishings.

Starting with the lobby, carved from a monolithic block, the intimate atrium features a strategically positioned opening on the southern facade to allow natural light to penetrate the seemingly enclosed space. Nature plays a decisive role in creating revitalizing atmospheres. Drawing inspiration from classical Chinese gardens, the designers have accentuated the abundant outdoor spaces for the hotel and invoked nature in the rooms through blue, pink, and green wall colors that echo foliage, flowers, and the sky.

All 202 private rooms boast high ceilings, ample natural light, specially designed furnishings by Neri&Hu, and decorative copper details, along with a range of comfort-enhancing features.

This includes the luxurious Artyzen Suite on the 19th and 20th floors: 136 square meters conceived as a residence with separate living, dining, and sleeping areas, a wardrobe, and a guest bathroom. The 182-square-meter Penthouse Suite on the 21st floor offers panoramic views, a fully equipped open kitchen, a fitness space, and 24-hour personalized butler service.

A contemporary interpretation of the classic archetype extends to the Performing Arts Center, which is also accessible via a direct link from the hotel. The entire interior project, including a 2,500-seat theater and a multipurpose exhibition space, plays with the box concept.

The large theater, where warm oak envelops the entire hall, is structured as an arena, with the repetitive arch motif serving both aesthetic and acoustic purposes. In the exhibition space, dark materials like blackened stainless steel alternate with reflective glass blocks that fully clad the escalators, giving the impression of ‘traveling’ through a transparent tunnel. This spectacular design extends to the bronze-clad restrooms, the curved copper elevator cabins, and the perforated brick VIP room, endowing each space with distinct personality.
