JJ Martin explores the dynamic intersection of creativity and spirituality through La DoubleJ‘s new “The Guardians” collection, created in partnership with Turin-based artist Elisa Seitzinger. Since launching La DoubleJ in 2015 in Milan, JJ Martin has blended fashion and homeware with a mission to elevate energy and inspire joy. Delving into themes of mysticism and positive energy, Martin shares how the collaboration brought to life five supernatural guardians—Unicorn, Sphinx, Angel, Dragon, and Mermaid—each imbued with unique energies to uplift and inspire. She reflects on the intricate design process and how these elements resonate with her own spiritual journey, bringing depth and joy into everyday life.
What inspired your collaboration with Elisa Seitzinger for “The Guardians” collection, and how did it shape the designs?
I’d known about Elisa and her work before and had always loved the intricacy and vibrancy that she brought to her illustrations and Tarot Cards. She shares a same passion and knowledge for mysticism and magic symbolism as I do, so her art blended perfectly with our own language. At La DoubleJ we like to collaborate with and shine a light on Italian artisans so, the fact that she’s from Torino, which is one of the world’s most magical cities (we even hosted a full day Magical Mystery Tour of the city last month which was open to the public which was amazing) made the collaboration all the more symbiotic. We’re always telling a story with our products and this collection in particular is steeped in deep spiritual significance – Elisa was the perfect partner to bring the potency of our messages to life.
How did the creative process bring the five supernatural guardians and their energies to life?
I chose the five Guardians that are central to the collection – The Sphinx, The Mermaid, The Unicorn, The Dragon and The Angel – because I wanted to anchor in my own spiritual practice with some of the products that we’re offering at La DoubleJ but do it in a light way that a lot of people can access. Elisa and I then brainstormed before she developed the first round of designs after which we went through a long process of refining and elevating each item, adding additional mystical motifs on each – the shell for The Mermaid, the dragonfly (one of LDJ’s first spirit animals) on The Unicorn, etc – all of which amplify the potency of each design. It was a true consciously creative collaboration.
How do the illustrations and symbols in this collection create positive vibes?
Everything we do at La DoubleJ is intended to Raise Your Vibration, which means to take your energies from the low, dense, murky end of the scale to the bright, open, joyful top of it. This collection was a really intentional exercise in infusing our company mission into our creations. So, along with being extremely intricate and visually impactful, each Guardian possesses a different energetic property – temperance from the Angel; wisdom from the Sphinx; power from the Dragon; femininity from the Mermaid; and magic from the Unicorn. I created a mantra for each one (see below) which one can read out to maximise the designs positive properties. THE ANGEL MANTRA: I call upon my angels of healing & protection THE DRAGON MANTRA: I ignite the flames of power & transformation THE SPHYNX MANTRA: I step into my full wisdom & sovereignty THE UNICORN MANTRA: I merge with the magic and purity within THE MERMAID MANTRA: I surrender to the depths of the Divine Feminine
Is there a particular guardian you feel most connected to, and what energy does it bring to your life?
I’m particularly drawn to the Dragon – it feels powerful and activating in its ability to transform anything that comes its way. What’s great about these is that you can really call on whichever Guardian you need in that moment. So if I’m seeking a little more serenity or Quan Yin energy, I’ll call on the Mermaid which has a super strong Divine Feminine characteristics like compassion and intuition.
Was there a key moment that marked your deep embrace of spirituality, and how has this journey influenced your work at La DoubleJ?
I often refer to Italy as my first spiritual teacher – it’s a journey I outline in my book, “Mamma Milano: Lessons From the Motherland.” I’ve practiced yoga for decades and have always has a deep interest in consciousness, but it wasn’t until I arrived here and started connecting with all of these incredible local healers and teachers, that I really began to dive deep into my spiritual practice. Since then I’ve studied with Energy Healer Elisabeth Manning in Petaluma, Peter Evans in Los Angeles, completed courses in Theta Healing Levels I & II, Ancient Egyptian Reiki codes with Devi Ma in Bali, Ascension Path Foundations with Sandra Walter, Yin Yoga, Divine DNA, Shamanic Dreaming, Spiritual Mastery, Ovarian Breathing and co-hosted several multi-day immersive retreats in Egypt with High Priestess Dee Kennedy and in Ibiza with The Six Senses. It’s something we’ve infused into La DoubleJ also – this past September we launched The Sisterhood, a community container for anyone exploring higher consciousness. It includes invitations to live inperson wellness events, my personal “Healer Book” of vetted, highly gifted teachers and an online toolkit of digital practices. We’re actually launching our first eight-part Course in Consciousness with our Sisterhood Academy in January, focussed on “Finding Your Inner Light in Shadow Season”. It’s entirely free to sign up – it’s my give back to the community that has brought me so much.
