Design Miami 2024 reaches its 20th edition. And, for this important anniversary, it opens under the banner of innovation and optimism. As this year’s curator, Glenn Adamson, sums it up: “Join us for a welcome dose of optimism: this December in Miami, things will be looking up.”
Indeed, the theme for 2024 is Blue Sky, a short-circuit of references incorporating the ideaof focusing on projects that are as radically innovative (the so-called ‘blue ocean’ strategy)as bold, risk-taking, and optimistic (a cloudless sky, in short). More than 130 galleries – strictly international – have come together to take over the challenge.
This year’s partners include B&B Italia, Bottega Veneta, Fendi, Lasvit, Range Rover, USM and Visionnaire (with an exhibition dedicated to the creative duo Draga & Aurel), confirming the fair’s ‘art de vivre’ positioning far beyond the boundaries of design. This year’s highlight is Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council (Official Digital Sponsor), which will present a collection born from the encounter between the Mexican designer Ricardo Rendón and the traditional crafts of the Emirates region, expressed in designer art objects. A dialogue between the Mexican tradition of carving pine wood and volcanic stone and Emirati craftsmanship, in this case sophisticated techniques of weaving plant fibers and other materials.
The fair confirms its ambition to address a diverse audience, including private collectors,
museums, policymakers (for public design), galleries, and the curious. All gathered under the same blue sky.
