In the Nautila kitchen designed by Franco Driusso for Arrital, the project has deep cultural roots combined with a totally contemporary sensibility. One of the elements of inspiration that gave the system its name is the nautilus, a marine mollusc whose shell, with its logarithmic progression, is considered one of the most perfect natural architectures, a natural representation of the golden section and a synthesis of mathematics and beauty.
A system of proportions and measures that translates into a rhythm of solids and voids designed to create a space capable of transcending the “boundaries” of the kitchen environment and involving the living area, giving rhythm to the domestic environment and organizing its functions.
This is the result of a series of technical elements: a door with a ribbed aluminum core that, at only 16 mm thick, ensures lightness and high performance, especially in the vertical modules (which can reach a height of 295 cm), while maintaining stability and lightness and ensuring greater durability of the opening mechanisms.
And a bridge system – an aluminum profile patented by Arrital, with no visible joints, with a matte black finish, coated with various materials, including stainless steel on an aluminum honeycomb support – that transforms the kitchen into a multitasking space, an architectural element that separates the kitchen, living and dining areas, even visually, while maintaining spatial continuity.
In this way, the kitchen is fully integrated into the “home system” and becomes its aesthetic heart. This is a factor that the company has taken into serious consideration when thinking about the door finishes, which are offered in a wide range of possibilities: there are the intense solid colors of Fenix NTM® and the Sand and Lucidi lacquers, but also a Smoked Oak, available in brushed or milled finishes with regular or asymmetrical slats.
Or, in a version with an elegant industrial touch, covered with an aluminum foil printed with a 3D geometric texture and lacquered in various shades, including Sand Black: a grid on a rhomboid base, rigorous and, in its decisive minimalism, refined and striking. The bridge system has integrated LED lighting, can hold kitchen utensils and supports the main service accessories, such as shelves and sockets, while an integrated smoked glass element protects the cooking area.
The collection’s accessories – open drawers, display cabinets, bottle holders or plate racks – are offered in the new 120 cm wide dimension, which makes the system even more elegant and scenic. The collection is completed by the Sipario storage system with four concealed doors, which can be configured inside in different versions, including the integrated suction solution.
Nautila represents a moment of evolution in the way a kitchen is designed, and for this reason it has been honored with numerous awards: the Good Design® Award 2022, in the year of its first presentation, and the IF Design Award 2023, two awards given annually by the Chicago Athenaeum, Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, and by iF International Forum Design GmbH, a design organization based in Germany. These awards are joined by the Big See Product Design Award, also received in 2023, and the DNA Product Design Award 2024, presented in Paris.
