From September 5th to 29th, Salone del Mobile.Milano lands in New York with Italian Design: from Classic to Contemporary, a special installation in collaboration with Bloomingdale’s Department Store that celebrates the best of Italian design. The initiative, part of the New York department store’s From Italy, with Love project, will feature icons and new products from 23 Made in Italy brands, in a setting curated by Ferruccio Laviani and inspired by the metaphysical squares of Giorgio de Chirico.
Located on the sixth floor of Bloomingdale’s in New York, the event is intended to be an immersive experience in the world of Italian design, with objects selected from the catalogues of companies such as Artemide, Edra, Flexform, Flou, Foscarini and many more. The exhibition space, transformed into a succession of wings and screens reminiscent of De Chirico’s works, is intended as a tribute to the heritage of the Salone, Italian creativity and the design skills of the exhibiting companies.
Alongside the installation, there is a rich programme of talks entitled Conversations about Italian Design, curated by Annalisa Rosso, Editorial Director & Cultural Events Advisor of the Salone. Guests include Maria Porro, President of Salone del Mobile.Milano, Kelley Carter, Bloomingdale’s Fashion Director, Marva Griffin Wilshire, Curator and Founder of SaloneSatellite, and architect Ferruccio Laviani.
The talks will address themes such as the value of Salone del Mobile as a driver of evolution in the sector, the role of Italian companies in the global market, and the relationship between contemporary design and classical culture. It is an opportunity for the New York design community and design lovers to immerse themselves in the world of Made in Italy and discover the latest trends in the sector.
