The materials: bamboo silk and New Zealand wool. The technique: hand-tufted. The Materia collection of high-end carpets, presented by Pininfarina Architecture in collaboration with Sahrai Milano, a leader in innovation and experimentation in new frontiers in the sector, respects the most stringent quality criteria. Materia marks the debut of Pininfarina Architecture in the world of carpets, but it does so by enriching its creations with unprecedented details and stylistic research, a full expression of the brand’s vision and values.

The use of carbon fiber and luminous details update a type of product, the carpet, which is among the oldest in human history: the first traces were found in the East and date back to the 5th century BC. A company like Pininfarina Architecture could not help but look for the best opportunity to create a carpet with architectural characteristics. This is how the collaboration with Sahrai Milano was born, a company that has been operating in the sector for generations. The history of Sahrai begins in 1830 against the exotic backdrop of the Tehran bazaar, in Persia, where the family became passionate about the difficult art of weaving, immediately favoring the highest quality materials.

The Sahrai family began to travel the world, from Istanbul to St. Petersburg, learning the best weaving techniques and from the beginning of the 1900s landed on the European market: in the 1950s it established itself in Switzerland, Belgium and Germany; followed by the opening of flagship stores all over the world: Milan, Japan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Russia, China, USA and Azerbaijan. The Materia collection consists of three models. Idea, 400 x 300 cm, is a rug with an innovative design handmade in bamboo silk and New Zealand wool with bamboo silk reliefs and carbon fiber inserts that emphasize its geometric patterns and clean lines.

Luce, also 400 x 300 cm, is characterized by a minimalist and contemporary design. The distinctive feature is the inclusion of integrated LED lights along the edge, which create a suspended effect by illuminating the environment in an elegant and discreet way. The vertical lines and abstract motifs, emphasized by the light, give the rug a dynamic and modern look. Finally, Acqua, of the same generous dimensions, is characterized by a refined aesthetic in which the fluidity and delicacy of that element is evoked by three oblique lines that recall the movements and shades of the waves. Handmade in bamboo silk and New Zealand wool, it has raised patterns in bamboo silk.
