The story of Boffi is a chapter of the history of Italian design. From the small crafts workshop opened in 1934 by Piero Boffi to the expanding reality today, the company has created true icons, working with the leading talents on the international scene. Over the years, Boffi has grown through tradition, research, technological innovation, experimentation and attention to detail. “These 90 years mark an important milestone, which would not have been possible without solid foundations, deeply rooted in history, and an ongoing, insatiable desire to be visionaries and pioneers in a context of corporate success,” says Roberto Gavazzi, CEO & President of Boffi|DePadova.

Serie C, Xila, Minikitchen, WK6, Case 5.0 are just a few of the models that stand out on the firm’s timeline, phases of the evolution of the kitchen-as-system related to changing uses and interpretations. Open multifunctional systems, connected to the living area while at the same time acting as a domestic fulcrum for everyday life, a space in which to welcome guests, to consume meals, to work, gather, relax and enjoy the home. Over time, a true “way of living” according to Boffi has emerged, sophisticated and elegant. Today, after 90 years, the company confirms its direction through three new models that reflect this ideal.

We start with the Novanta kitchen designed by Piero Lissoni, to celebrate the company’s anniversary. Novanta enters spaces with its architectural appeal, rigorous and extremely modern. This is due to the “floating” design featuring a setback at the base, which supports cabinets with panels in matching finishes. The materials have great tactile allure, from MDi to stainless steel, covering the baseboard, the tops and the sides – a perfect specimen of Boffi’s industrial design.

“We have gotten out of the world of designed products, entering that of an architectural product –Piero Lissoni explains. – It is composed of horizontal parts, islands on which to work, perpendicular storage units, precisely like a city that develops on both axes.”

An equally sculptural look takes the stage with the new Cove Kitchen, reinterpreting and evolving the model developed in 2017 by Zaha Hadid. In Cove the work island has been formulated as a place for socializing, represented by a single block with simple, sinuous forms, which utilizes easily shaped materials like Corian. In this encore, the island is clad in lateral parts with rounded corners, and specific tops with the borders gently curving downward. There are also new materials, such as Clay, matte lacquer and marble for the tops, to enhance the iconic design.

XO by Boffi, design Elisa Ossino

XO is the third new kitchen released for Boffi’s 90th. A project that draws on the company’s past to develop something that is utterly innovative. Designer Elisa Ossino took inspiration from the Xila model created by Luigi Massoni in 1972, to make a system defined by precise lines and delicate borders. Distinctive features include the top and the lateral panels that function as a refined tactile portal with an overhang of three centimeters, framing the iconic doors free of handles, which for the first time graze the floor, separated from it by just two centimeters.

The top in Breccia Imperiale stone, with a thickness of 6 cm, is recessed in the washing area to host two sinks and a draining unit with a pattern that echoes the geometric forms favored by the designer. XO combines form and function with a focus on socializing, thanks to a peninsula in solid wood (American elm or oil-treated ash) with a circular form placed on the worktop.
