A new way of thinking about outdoor spaces, not just as an extension of the comfort and care set aside for interiors, but also as an invitation to indulge in responsible pleasures, in closer tune with the environment. This is the philosophy of Roda, for which outdoor furniture is essentially an expression of the ties between people, of genuine convivial and family moments, and a wellbeing that is based on an intimate, profound relationship with nature, sublimated in a concept of décor based on functional beauty. Refinement and elegance are the earmarks of the brand, which with design honed to the smallest details and high standards of quality and durability presents offerings that have the flavor of home, exuding “positive vibes.”
Through pieces capable of perfect insertion in the landscape, creating a sense of harmonious symbiosis, the Roda collections stand out for their warm and natural materials and colors, in reference to Mediterranean landscapes. This is also evident in the new Estendo collection, created by the designer Luca Pevere: a new modular system for outdoor use featuring a structure in aluminium, for products that become the protagonists of spaces in a discreet way, while bringing out the beauty of a style Made in Italy.
The concept for the development of Estendo stems from the idea of configuring the sofa in response to personal needs, working on three open linear structures in order to create seats for three people – with or without armrests – plus a corner model. The two main aluminium sections, in fact, placed frontally below the seat and at the end of the back, are like practical tracks to permit the various connections and the extension of the sofa, also thanks to the vanishing joints in die-cast aluminium. The composition is completed by two shaped tubes, wrapping the arrangement and adding a sinuous look to the whole, while functioning as armrests.
While insertion in surrounding contexts is fundamental, personalization becomes a distinctive feature of this model, to fully convey the essence of its users. The aluminium parts come in two finishes, smoke and milk, while the cushions – equipped with a water-shedding system, or in the standard version – draw on a wide range of colors and fabrics, whose performance is boosted by the variable-density foam filler that brings consistency and softness.
As Luca Pevere explains, “the inspiration began with the observation of a historic piece – the Japan chair – created by the Danish designer Finn Juhl, with a characteristic wooden pole for the back. This seat, which I still consider extremely modern today, is enormously rigorous in its wooden structure, which I have always thought almost demanded continuation at the sides. In Estendo I have tried to grant continuity to that sign, making it the distinctive feature, to join the various modules of the seat and give them the possibility of enclosing with the armrest.”
