The inspiration comes from the world of fashion, from carefree games in the open air, or from gardens, terraces and miniatures encountered during travels in the East. Carpets are like empty canvases on which designers can test their creativity and the skills of artisans. These ingredients lead to increasingly strong, high-performance products that respect the environment thanks to new ecological, low-impact materials.
The Italian-Thai designer Elena Sanguankeo has created the ECO (on cover) outdoor carpet collection for Gervasoni. The rugs, first designed and produced on hand-operated shuttle looms, are then developed on an adapted industrial loom. The designer transfers her experiencing of the world of high fashion into three variations: Green Contrast combines an orange-blue bouclé with green-turquoise ribbon mélange; White Contrast features rope-color bouclé and white ribbon mélange; while Natural Contrast mixes yellow and periwinkle blue with mélange earth tones.

During a trip, Patricia Urquiola was impressed by the delicacy and harmony of Mughal architecture. This was the inspiration for the new Garden Layers collection for GAN, composed of carpets, tables, mats, rollers and cushions that can be arranged in different ways, creating infinite options for outdoor living.

G.T.DESIGN presents Hula Hoop, a project by the founder and creative director Deanna Comellini, based on outdoor games. The collection of carpets with a ribbed texture is made by hand with technical non-toxic yarn developed to stand up to wear and UV rays, bacteria and staining. After a long life, the Hula Hoop carpets are totally recyclable. The products come in three configurations, two circular (Circle and Frame) and one oval (Track, in the photo), and seven colors.

Vondom conducts research to develop new production techniques and new products. The result is the Outdoor Rugs collection made in recycled plastic (using over 130 plastic bottles to make each square meter of rug). Designed for outdoor use, the mats resist water, UV rays and high temperatures, adding a warm, welcoming touch to any context.

For Pleiadi by Warli, Paolo Zani has created an outdoor rug produced with continuous repetition of a coil, sewn and assembled by hand. The edges simulate traditional fringes. Pleiadi is an idea that sprang to life from a sketch made on a sheet of paper. The items are crafted by artisans, able to masterfully translate an idea into a décor object.
