“Our goal is clear: to be the global leader in high-end design, with a portfolio of iconic companies that reach their stakeholders – architects, designers and consumers – through a multi-channel approach.” These are the words of Daniel Lalonde, Chief Executive Officer of Design Holding, the group that currently brings together brands like B&B Italia, Maxalto, Arclinea, Azucena, Flos and Louis Poulsen, as well as YDesign, one of the major digital platforms in the United States for e-commerce in the field of lighting.
The acquisition of Designers Company A/S, a holding company of a Danish group that includes brands like Menu and by Lassen, will permit Design Holding to reinforce its position on the Scandinavian market, expanding its product offerings and reaching a younger clientele.
Design Holding wants to achieve four particular objectives with this important step: to make the brands more appealing, familiar and sought-after; to reinforce direct-to-consumer operations; to expand with a focus on China and North America; and to develop high-end contract business through the collaboration of the brands in the areas of hospitality, residential, corporate and retail.
Designers Company, in turn, has a strong presence on the design market in Northern Europe and the United States, and is considered a pioneer of the new Nordic style. It began with the acquisition of Menu, the Copenhagen-based company founded in 1978, which produces a vast range of furniture, accessories and lighting products, and has then developed a heritage collection, through the company by Lassen. Today Designers Company has an archive of over 2000 heritage produces and a strong e-commerce operation.
