Created in partnership with the company Caesarstone, two public design projects are installed in New York: Turn Out by Karim Rashid, in Downtown Manhattan, uses abstract forms to create a series of connected benches and tables, made with three parts cut from a single sheet to minimize waste.

“We are in a moment in which Mother Nature urges us to slow down, to limit consumption, to appreciate life to the fullest – Rashid says. – And Turn Out attempts to create a space that engages our curiosity, and brings pleasure.”

Inspired by an emblem of New York – the Hudson River – and by the sculptures of Isamu Noguchi, Spiral of Life by Kickie Chudikova is an adaptive installation with an organic form, conceived for sitting, gazing at the evocative panorama of Dumbo and recharging ourselves.

Made with waterjet cutting of stone parts that are connected by a single metal structure, the seating is combined with its own production scraps that are used to create lateral tables. “Thanks to its modular design, Spiral of Life can be adjusted in size and form – Chudikova explains – to function as a single element, a pair of seats, or a continuous wave.”
