With its sleek and sporty lines, the new Mangusta 104 REV is the entry level of the iconic Maxi Open range, where Overmarine has been the acknowledged leader for over 35 years, with over 300 constructed vessels. An innovative yacht that ushers in a new era for the Tuscan shipyard, which has created a team composed of its own Engineering division and an international design signature: the studio Lobanov Design, working for the first time on a yacht of this size, and with an Italian producer.
The main objective is to create innovative lines, while keeping faith with the Mangusta DNA. “It was essential to change with respect to the past, to make it clear that this is a new generation, but without losing the shipyard’s family feeling,” says Igor Lobanov.
“So we have found a balance of classic, modern but also ‘disruptive’ lines.” To achieve this, Lobanov has turned to his passion for car design and sculpture. “I always try to shape the forms when I am drawing,” the designer says, “while complying with the principles of boat construction.”
We got on board during the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2021, and the yacht impressed us for its combination of masculine design and rounded, feminine forms. And for the vivid indoor-outdoor dialogue: the entire stern area is seamless, and there are no architectural barriers between the saloon and the cockpit. Large windows offer a view to infinity, and flood the interiors with light.
Shiny materials capture reflection of sea and sunlight, entering the yacht to become part of the décor. All around, the view scans from stern to bow, through lateral gangways; even in the living area, a rounded glass window on the back wall changes from opaque to transparent with the touch of a button, offering a glimpse of the wheelhouse.
On the ceiling, a skylight allows natural light to enter the fly deck below. The lower deck is also equipped with oversized windows. Natural and artificial lighting plays a decisive role: every space is provided with direct and indirect lighting devices to bring out the details of the interior design. Circular motifs are also found in all the freestanding furnishings, like the Lawson sofa by Minotti, the Marilyn chair by Baxter in black nabuk, and the Fat-Sofa poufs by B&B Italia. And the motif continues in the back-lit mirrors and the lamps of the guest cabins and bathrooms.
Mangusta 104 REV can accommodate 10 people in 4 cabins: owner’s, VIP and two guest cabins. There are various outdoor areas for living in contact with the open air and nature: the cockpit, the large sunbathing area at the bow, and the sundeck with a large lounge zone and the second command post. The lucky yachtsman immediately fell in love with this model, as soon as he saw the concept on paper in Cannes, in 2019: purchased exactly as specified, with no modifications… which makes perfect sense to us!
