Cassina was founded in 1927 in Meda, north of Milan (almost one century ago: the company is now listed among the Historic Brands of National Interest). At the end of the ’40s the company started collaborating with architects for an increasingly industrial production: design thus became a central element of its DNA.. This was the start of a golden age of exceptional collaborations, first of all with Gio Ponti. Today, thanks to the creative direction of Patricia Urquiola (art director since 2015), the company’s vision becomes a pivot around which to organize a world and a particular taste, a form of thought that crosses history. This marks the starting point, in 2019, for the “Cassina Perspective” project: a world where past and present establish a dialogue in infinite creative exchanges.

A dialogue that touches on all the spaces of the home, including those in the open air: the first Cassina outdoor collection was launched in 2020, with new creations (by Philippe Starck, Rodolfo Dordoni and Patricia Urquiola) and versions of design classics re-engineered for outdoor use, icons of modernity like the pieces designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, or the Doron Hotel Outdoor chair by Charlotte Perriand, a great lover of the mountains, for the hotel of the same name at Meribel Les Allues, the ski resort where she had a small chalet. Pieces that are natural extensions of the concept of “home,” where inside and outside interact along the lines of an inimitable design code. Writing a new chapter in a story made of great ideas.

The Outdoor collection continues to expand with solutions that are perfect for any external space, be it a terrace, a porch or a garden. Combining past and present. Like the Carlotta chair designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa in 1967, now developed for outdoor use. An informal, welcoming seat in teak with cushions filled with PET fiber. The structure reprises the complex system of joints and interlocks of the original model, reflecting the attention to detail that has always been a strong point of the work of Tobia Scarpa and Cassina. The seating system is accompanied by three tables with teak structure and contrasting tops in glazed porcelain stoneware.

The Trampoline family, with its playful curved forms (a distinctive creation designed with the unique touch of Patricia Urquiola), now includes a new model: an oval cot with fixed legs or a pair of wheels on the back legs to facilitate movement, in powder-coated stainless steel. The structure, with a back adjustable at various angles, has a pad that can be enhanced by lively fringes, like the other pieces in the collection.

The Dine Out collection designed by Rodolfo Dordoni has also been expanded with a new single-material version of the rectangular table. The conical base, which was in concrete, yellow/white or green/white terrazzo in the first version, is now also available in a solution with four teak trestle legs. The top is still in solid teak. A natural material for exceptional performance.
