Bedroom indispensables

They almost steal the stage from the bed, which usually takes up all the space. Small and large décor complements become outstanding figures in the bedroom zone

Everything has its place and stays in place, thanks to small and larger works of architecture that inhabit the bedroom. Bedside units, desks, benches, wardrobe systems, often multifunctional or transformable, to respond to spatial needs in a not-just-nocturnal context.

Conceived for new dynamics in domestic space, the Ortis desk designed by Gabriele and Oscar Buratti for Lema is an interesting presence in contemporary settings, for studying or working from home, also in the bedroom zone. Refined and elegant, the desk has an oval top that conceals two practical drawers, supported by a light structure of metal tubing anchored to semicircular base plates. The top of the Ortis desk comes in glossy or matte lacquer or wood, while the slender legs are in bronze-coated metal.

The Jean-Marie bedroom collection which the architect Umberto Asnago has designed for  4 Mariani relies on the precious quality of cowhide and leather, and on fine craftsmanship. Besides the bed, dresser and bedside units, the collection includes a vanity table with a structure in curved poplar plywood, completely covered in leather or cowhide. The top is in marble or gray stained canaletto walnut.

Originally designed in 1994 by Nanda Vigo, now reissued by Francesco Meda and David Lopez Quincoces (the new creative directors) in 2020, the Storet chest by Acerbis is a lively, playful presence. In the high version with eight drawers or the bedside variation envisioned by Nanda Vigo but never produced until today, Storet embodies the company’s prowess in traditional woodworking.

Launched as a bedside unit in 2014 and now an indispensable presence in the nighttime settings of Living Divani, the Moon project by Mist-o has been expanded to explore new possibilities of expression and use. Its pure form in curved wood, which opens to reveal storage spaces, now comes in three new variations. One of them, Moon Satellite, is a cabinet on wheels, taller and multifunctional, ready for use as a bedside unit, a small table or a drawer unit for a desk, organized with a lower compartment for books and magazines, and an upper space in which to place objects and accessories.

The new bedroom collection Gruppo Palù, designed by Raffaella Mangiarotti for Pianca, composed of a bedside unit and a bench, narrates an idea of small architectures featuring a linear game of full and empty zones. The array of wooden rods, like caning, triggers the structure of the bench, enhanced by soft padding – covered in fabric, leather or eco-leather – and a handy lower shelf in Vienna straw.

The Storage system of wardrobes and cabins by Porro, designed by Piero Lissoni + CRS Porro, has been revolutionized in terms of construction, with a new upright that brings a sensation of extreme lightness. The Storage dressing room freely alternates open and closed compartments, backs and dividers in glass: the transparency is enhanced by the corner solution. Multiple options are offered for internal organization: from the shoe storage zone with sloping luminous shelves, to the organizers for accessories or the soft liners of drawers and object caddies in eco-leather, available in different colors and formats.

The result of constant technical research on the part of Rimadesio, Cover Open by Giuseppe Bavuso is an innovative open wardrobe solution, made to measure and perfectly combined into the freestanding version with hinged doors. The system is paced by frontal sections in aluminium, designed to enhance the wardrobe elements and to underscore their aesthetic minimalism. The system provides maximum personalization thanks to a wide range of outfitting options, and the possibility of alternating open compartments and storage zones with hinged doors.

ROI by BertO is a perfect bedroom complement, designed by Castello Lagravinese Studio in collaboration with the research and development team of BertO. The structural parts, like the weave of diagonals and verticals, are in steel and support the circular storage compartment, accessed from the front. The slim handle has the same finish as the structure, suggesting continuity with the volumes of the top. The compartment has frontal opening with a controlled movement for slow closure, thanks to careful study of high-precision metal microtechnology.
