24 hours in Milan with Tom Dixon (and his hologram)

The (brilliant) English designer takes virtual part in Milan’s design week with his hologram, on hand at talks and events around the city

So travel’s impossible? No problem! The (brilliant) English designer Tom Dixon is virtually participating in the design days taking place right now in Milan, appearing as a hologram at encounters, talks and digital initiatives on 13 April, the day that would have marked the start of the Salone del Mobile (postponed until September).

An intense day for Tom Dixon, and for his hologram alter ego, where he will be featured in a live Instagram broadcast at 18.00 (Italian time) with Gianluca Mollura, CEO of Mohd, and in other appointments with sector publications, with the gallerist Rossana Orlandi, with Angela Missoni, creative director of the fashion maison, and with Business of Fashion contributor Luca Solca.

The designer, broadcasting from his London headquarters at King’s Cross, will speak in front of a green screen to transmit his hologram to Milan, also presenting two new products: the theatrical incredibly reflecting chandelier Burst, and the Hydro 100% recyclable chair, in a limited edition of just 60 pieces, created with Hydro, the worldwide aluminium giant, using lasers borrowed from the automotive world; the chair is produced in Canada by the same suppliers that work for Tesla. A dream item, numbered and sold for 2021 pounds, to mark the current date.

The 24 hours with Tom Dixon conclude with a cooking and cocktail masterclass, followed by the traditional DJ set by invitation only, even for holograms.
