When the company Celebrity Cruises, owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises, decided to rethink its fleet ‘from top to bottom,’ it came naturally to assign the interior design of the Celebrity Edge cruise ship to one of the most sought-after talents in the world. The choice went to the award-winning English designer Kelly Hoppen CBE, with her warm, harmonious style, in a project that makes a clean break with the traditional approach to cruise ships.

On board, guests feel more connected to the sea, thanks to a variety of spaces that offer extraordinary views of the ocean and the destinations. The designer’s vision suggests the intimacy of an apartment, but one that also opens onto breathtaking vistas, with such careful crafting of the details that any stay in these spaces becomes unique and inimitable. The entire ship thrives on clean lines and neutral colors, at times mixed with lively accents and a subtle blend of East and West, for a final effect of warmth and sumptuous opulence.

Two suites placed above deck extend for about 241 square meters to contain two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining room, a living area and a veranda of 65 sqm, as well as panoramic windows that wrap the spaces, flooding them with light. As in the 6 Edge Villas on two levels, with private pools and direct access to the Retreat Sundeck, providing peerless visuals thanks to two-story windows.

Hoppen has also designed two Penthouse Suites with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, featuring large tubs on the veranda, spacious walk-through showers and wardrobes, together with 146 Sky Suites facing outward for exceptional views. All the units have soft king-size mattresses in cashmere, an absolute novelty for this sector, custom furnishings with vintage and geometric styling, combined with curtains with contrasting borders. Though the true stand-out is the Duplex – a residence of unique design boasting two-story spaces and an outdoor pool – contained in a ‘glass box’ that offers a complete view of the ocean, as if from a seaside home.

The same domestic sensation returns in the Luminae restaurant, where the petals of suspension lamps open over the tables, reflecting all the finishes, including the bran of the marble at the entrance. The innovative concept of the Celebrity Edge is completed by the project for public spaces created by Tom Wright – with the evocative veranda suspended over the sea in a spectacular solution – and by an overall aesthetic formulated by Nate Berkus, Edge Ambassador.

“Celebrity Edge is one of the most exciting and innovative ships I’ve ever been involved with – says Richard D. Fain, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises. – The new functional features and the sophisticated design work set a new baseline for cruise ships from now on.”
