A dream location for a dream hotel: Palazzo Avino, a hotel inside a historic estate from the 12th century in Ravello, on the hills of the Amalfi Coast. The rooms and suites have been reimagined by the designer Cristina Celestino, who says: “The idea began with reasoning on the essence of Palazzo Avino and its bond with Ravello and the Amalfi Coast. Perched amidst narrow cobblestone streets, the hotel is a pink mirage surrounded by terraces of olive and citrus trees. It is hard to reach, a destination that turns out to be even more extraordinary than you imagined, with a breathtaking view of the sea. You get a first glimpse of the lancet openings in the facades of the Palazzo. The concept is based on the wonders of Italian gardens in Ravello, and the odyssey of forgotten stories of the Tyrrhenian».
The designer has brought her inimitable style to the spaces, with vibrant colors ranging from ivory tones for the tops of furnishings in crafted ceramic to the rainbow onyx used to clad the bathrooms in the suites, by way of aquamarine, coral and sand hues, references to the coast. All the furnishings are custom-made in wood, with pearly effects and precious inlays, to establish a dialogue with the antiques already present in the palace.
“The biggest challenge in my creative role was to bring together the identity and present image of Palazzo Avino and the expectations of an established clientele, with my design vision and the objective of making these marvelous spaces more contemporary, and at the same time more rooted in the coastal landscape,” the designer explains.
Nothing has been left to chance: all the floors of the rooms and suites feature geometric patterns in white, pink and variegated earthenware, from the Giardino all’Italiana collection by Fornace Brioni, designed by Cristina Celestino in 2017 and customized for this project. The headboards have been specially designed and covered with Rubelli fabrics, while the appliques in the headboards and corresponding bedside lamps suggest the form of seashells, containing crystal pearls that spread the light, produced for Cristina Celestino by Esperia Luci.
The interiors are like chambers of wonders, enriched by custom made pieces designed by Cristina Celestino, as the furnishings realized by Skillmax, paneling in precious marble by Budri, the Corolla armchairs by Billiani, the Lilli lamps by Kundalini, the rugs by CC-Tapis, the drapes by Dedar and Rubelli: inlaid tables of colored briar, surprising alcoves, beds enclosed and cradled in a slightly concave shell in the walls, hidden niches and corners awaiting discovery.
